VII INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS IMAGES OF DEATH

About

 

We invite all interested parties to participate in the VII LATIN AMERICAN CONGRESS IMAGES OF DEATH. The Images of Death Congress takes place every two years and is the main forum for interdisciplinary discussion on issues of death, dying and the dead in Latin America.

After taking place at Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, Lima (I Congress, 2004); Universidad Autonoma de Yucatán, Merida, Mexico (Second Congress, 2006); Bogota, Colombia (III Congress, 2008), Salgado de Oliveira University, Niterói (IV Congress, 2010), 54th International Congress of Americanists, Vienna (V Congress, 2012); Universidad Nacional de Salta, Argentina (VI Congress, 2014), in 2016 the Images of Death Congress will take place for the first time in São Paulo, hosted by the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism of USP, in partnership with the Brazilian Association of Cemeterial Studies (ABEC, the research group Images of Death (UNIRIO/CNPq), the Research Group Places of Memory and Conscience (USP/CNPq), Death Studies Laboratory (Institute of Psychology, USP), the Funeral Service of São Paulo and Goethe Institute São Paulo.

The conference is of an interdisciplinary nature and will focus on the multiple dimensions of its theme within society: cultural, symbolic, political, religious, ideological, economic, etc.

Contributions are welcome from all fields of knowledge related to the theme of death, dying and disposal of the dead. These fields could include, but are not limited to: Cemeterial Studies, History, Geography, Anthropology, Religion, Public Policy, Fine Arts, Architecture and Urbanism, Landscaping and Sociology.

 

 

 

Abstract submission

 

E-mail submission: February 1st 16

Notification of acceptance: April 1st 16

Full paper submission: May 1st 16

 

Abstracts should be annexed and emailed to: 7imagensdamorte@ gmail.com containing:

a) Name;

b) Institution;

c) Country;

d) Short CV (detailing qualification area, occupation and main publications);

e) Abstract Title;

f) Expanded abstract of up to 2 pages, Times New Roman 12, spacing 1,5. The abstract should present the main theme of the paper, research questions, hypothesis, theoretical references and relevant literature.

g) 5 keywords.
